The Master Clinic was held at Mullen High School from 8am-noon on 2/4. Thanks to Mullen HS and those who allowed us to use their facility for our annual flagship training event.
The keynote speaker was MLB Umpire Cory Blaser. Cory is a graduate of Pomona High School and attended Colorado State University. He was officially named to the full-time MLB staff prior to the 2014 season. Cory worked his first career MLB postseason game in 2015 as the National League Wild Card right field umpire. He has since umpired numerous post season games. Cory umpired the 2017 & 2023 World Baseball Classics and the 2018 All Star Game. It was a great opportunity to interact with an MLB Umpire. He used many situations of his, along with a video with an analysis to relate to our craft of umpiring. Many questions were asked and answered at the end of his presentation. It looked like the crowd was engaged and benefited from his presence.
The focal point of the Master Clinic were the couple of hours spent with interactive stations.
Those stations covered:
Positioning at plate and bases to make calls
Tips from camps/clinics
Towards the end, those umpires who worked the semi-finals and finals games were recognized, along with all receiving a shirt (sponsored by GR8 Call, and the finals umpires receiving additional awards they personally got to select. (attached is the worksheet they chose from)
Once again if you see Greg Holstine, extend a big "thank you" for him and the MC clinic, along with the clinicians for the work they did. He has started planning for next year already! It starts with a survey for those who attended to give feedback for continued improvement.
As a reminder, attending the Master Clinic at least every other year is a
requirement to be post season eligible.
